Top runners hit the pavement barefoot
Rehab Regs, July 28, 2005
Some runners and experts believe the best shoes for running might be no shoes at all, according to the Vancouver (Canada) Sun. Running barefoot can strengthen the muscles in the foot, which may have atrophied over years of being in shoes. When conditioned, these muscles protect against ankle sprains, plantar fascitis, and shin splints. However, very few experts advocate running barefoot all the time. Most coaches, therapists, and physicians suggest that people train for 20 minutes barefoot and still use shoes to support their feet during a race or long run, reported the Sun.
