MedPAC report supports performance-based payments
Rehab Regs, June 23, 2005
In its June report to Congress, the Medicare Payment Advisory Commission (MedPAC) concluded that evidence of steep spending increases for Medicare physician and other outpatient services supports the panel's recommendations on paying for performance, measuring resource use, and reforming the payment update for physician services, according to PT Bulletin Online. Earlier this year CMS reported a one-year increase of more than 15% in spending under the Part B physician fee schedule, and cited rehab as one of several areas of growth. MedPAC reported to Congress that additional recommendations could involve physical therapy and possible mispricing of payments under the physician fee schedule, reported the Bulletin.
