Clinical prediction rule developed for CTS
Rehab Regs, June 16, 2005
U.S. scientists have developed a clinical prediction rule for carpal tunnel syndrome (CTS), according to Obesity, Fitness & Wellness Week. The study evaluated 82 consecutively referred patients with suspected cervical radiculopathy or CTS referred for electrophysiologic examination. The rule identified in the study consisted of one question--shaking hands for symptom relief--and included a wrist-ratio index of greater than .67, Symptom Severity Scale score of greater than 1.9, reduced median sensory field of digit I, and age greater than 45 years. The likelihood of the rule was 18.3 when all five tests were positive, reported Obesity, Fitness & Wellness Week.
