Scrushy jury hears FBI tapes
Rehab Regs, May 26, 2005
After jurors in the Richard Scrushy HealthSouth trial heard recordings of the former chief executive at work, both the defense and prosecution teams claim that the information bolstered their side, according to The Birmingham News. Scrushy faces dozens of years in prison and the loss of a $279 million fortune if convicted on all 36 counts, which range from securities fraud to conspiracy to false certification under the Sarbanes-Oxley law. The government contends that Scrushy used phony bookkeeping entries to boost Birmingham-based HealthSouth's income and stock price, reported the News.
