New Medicare manual considered an improvement
Rehab Regs, May 19, 2005
CMS released revisions to the Medicare manual for therapy services on May 6 that are pleasing many therapists, as well as the American Physical Therapy Association (APTA), according to the organization's PT Bulletin Online. In addition to implementing provisions of the November 15, 2004, regulations clarifying personnel standards for "incident to" services and supervision requirements in private practice settings, the new manual also omits the requirement for a physician visit prior to certification. Therapists will now have up to 30 days to obtain certification of the plan of care, reported the Bulletin. Visit APTA's Web site at http://www.apta.org/bulletin to read a summary of the new manual provisions.
