Recovery from hip surgery can be long and painful, but a total hip replacement is a reliable treatment for people with debilitating hip pain, according to Consumer Reports on Health. In addition to more minimally invasive surgery, experts now believe that earlier and more intense physical therapy following surgery can help patients recover quicker. The best candidates for total hip replacement surgery are under 60 years of age, and those who are generally healthy, with little or no bone loss or deformity, reported Consumer Reports on Health.
