Therapists need better billing training

Rehab Regs, April 28, 2005

Over 99% of services provided by ten Texas physical therapy practices in 2002 failed to meet Medicare requirements, according to a recent report released by the Office of Inspector General (OIG), reported PT Bulletin Online. The faulty billing resulted in payments of more than $57,000 that the Medicare carrier is now looking to recover. As a result, the OIG has found that Medicare carriers need to provide clearer commuication regarding billing and documentation practices to help PTs and other providers get up to speed.
