PT doctorates at Cal State hit a roadblock

Rehab Regs, April 21, 2005

With the state's population aging, California State University officials are pushing to offer doctorates that cater to baby boomers and career professionals, according to the Contra Costa Times. State Sen. Jack Scott (D-Altadena) has proposed a bill that would allow Cal State's 23 campuses to grant a limited number of doctorates, physical therapy among them. But to do so, lawmakers would need to alter the state's Master Plan for Higher Education, a 1960 document that laid out the roles of Cal State, the University of California, and the community college systems. University leaders have vehemently opposed recent efforts to tamper with the master plan, according to the Times.
