Insurer provider numbers worry healthcare professionals

Rehab Regs, April 7, 2005

Rhode Island healthcare providers told a joint legislative committee last week that they are worried the state's new health insurer doesn't have enough providers in its network, according to the Associated Press. United Healthcare, the second largest health insurer in the state, is expected to take over the care of 32,000 state employees, retirees, and their dependents from rival Blue Cross & Blue Shield of Rhode Island on May 1. Physical therapists, social workers, and psychologists have also asked lawmakers to pressure United Healthcare to pay them more and treat them better.
