CMS issues draft guidance on NCDs
Rehab Regs, March 31, 2005
On March 9, CMS issued the first three drafts in a series of guidance documents to improve the Medicare National Coverage Determination (NCD) process. The draft guidance documents can be found at http://www.cms.hhs.gov/coverage/guidance.asp and detail certain steps in the process CMS uses to determine whether an item or service is reasonable and necessary for coverage as a Medicare benefit. CMS is encouraging stakeholders to comment on these drafts during a 60-day period that ends on May 8. Final guidance documents should be completed within 90 days after the close of the initial 60-day comment period, according to CMS.
