Congress reintroduces direct access legislation

The U.S. House of Representatives and the Senate reintroduced legislation this week to allow Medicare recipients to have direct access to physical therapy services without obtaining a physician referral, according to PT Bulletin Online. The Medicare Patient Access to Physical Therapists Act (HR 1333) was introduced last Wednesday by Representatives Melissa Hart (R-PA) and Earl Pomeroy (D-ND). The Senate's bill (S 647) was introduced last Thursday by Senators Blanche L. Lincoln (D-AR) and Arlen Specter (R-PA).
