PT schools converting to include doctoral programs

Rehab Regs, February 24, 2005

An aging population and increased demand for physical therapy services has prompted Dominican College to offer a doctorate in the field, according to The Journal News [Westchester, NY]. The college is not unlike others across the country. Currently, six out of ten schools nationwide that have physical therapy programs have either converted or are restructuring their curricula to include doctoral programs. The postgraduate programs are attracting not only students who have recently earned a bachelor's degree, but also older students who are already employed as physical therapists. At present, New York has 21 colleges offering either an accredited master's or a doctorate program in physical therapy, the most in any state, reported the News.
