Researchers track quality home healthcare

Rehab Regs, February 10, 2005

University of Michigan researchers are part of a team that has developed a new home healthcare quality assessment tool created to improve care and provide meaningful feedback, according to Obesity, Fitness & Wellness Week.. The team reports on home care quality indicators based on 22 measures that home care agencies, government, and consumers can use to evaluate quality home care. The areas all come from the Minimum Data Set. Among services where researchers found room for improvement were flu vaccinations and therapy. For example, 32% of home care clients in the study population had not received an influenza vaccination in the last two years, and more than 70% of home care clients who could benefit from rehabilitation did not receive physical or occupational therapy.
