Senate approves elder falls prevention act
Rehab Regs, December 9, 2004
The U.S. Senate recently approved a bill (S. 1217) designed to prevent elder falls, according to PT Bulletin Online. The bill directs the secretary of the Department of Health and Human Services to implement a national public education campaign directed at older adults, their families, and healthcare providers that focuses on reducing falls among the elderly. The Keeping Seniors Safe From Falls Act would authorize the agency to conduct research on improving the identification of older adults at risk of falling and improving data collection and analysis of fall risk. The act would also authorize the design, implemention, and evaluation of the most effective fall prevention interventions.
