APTA files lawsuit against state board

Rehab Regs, November 18, 2004

The American Physical Therapy Association (APTA) filed a lawsuit early this month against the Federation of State Boards of Physical Therapy, according to an APTA press release. The association claims that the federation failed to comply with a committment to limit examination fees paid by physical therapists when the sit for exams. The association also claims that the federation is not currently adhering to an agreement allowing APTA to designate at least 40% of examination committee members. According to APTA, the current physical therapist examination rate of $285 is an increase of 215% since 1993--more than six times the inflation rate. It is scheduled to increase to $350 on January 1, 2005.
