New Mexico faces sanctions over disabled care

Rehab Regs, November 4, 2004

The New Mexico Health Department is proposing to fine itself over problems in client care, oversight, and financial managment in a program for disabled people, according to Obesity, Fitness & Wellness Week. The department has the authority to fine programs for failing to meet state standards. Investigators found that clients receiving speech, occupational, or physical therapy at a center were not getting that therapy reinforced at home, and that the required individual service plans were not current. The investigation also found that department staff left confidential client reports in stacks on shelves and near sinks, and failed to track paperwork to make sure nurses and therapists were licensed, reported Obesity, Fitness & Wellness Week.
