OIG focuses on inpatient payments
Rehab Regs, October 21, 2004
Inpatient rehab facilities can expect some extra attention from the feds in 2005, according to the Work Plan released earlier this month by the Office of the Inspector General (OIG). The OIG expects to focus on admissions, interrupted stay billing, patients' lengths of stay, outlier payments, cost of services, and late payment assessments. Other areas of interest to the rehab industry include cardiac outpatient rehab services related to Medicare coverage requirements, medical necessity of therapy in skilled nursing facilities and the process for obtaining physician certification for OT and PT services.
