CMS clarifies 722, 724 billing
Rehab Regs, October 14, 2004
CMS has clarified two important diagnosis codes after the removal of the 'adult only' classification for the 722.xx and 724.xx code series caused some confusion among providers. In Transmittal 290, CMS explains that codes in the 722.xx series for intervertebral disc disorders and the 724.xx series for back disorders have not been deleted. Instead, the specification that they be used for adult diagnosis only has been removed, allowing the codes to be used to bill regardless of the patient's age. Visit http://www.cms.hhs.gov/manuals/pm_trans/R290CP.pdf to view the transmittal.
