Armchair quarterbacks targeted by APTA
Rehab Regs, October 7, 2004
In celebration of National Physical Therapy Month in October, the American Physical Therapy Association (APTA) is encouraging football fans to get fit, even while sitting on the couch. APTA has developed the "Couch Potato Workout," which features exercises such as the "Hail Mary back and arm extensor" to work the upper back and shoulders, and "Touch back wall squats" to work the thighs, hips, back, and abdomen. APTA also hopes to stress with the workout that exercise doesn't necessarily mean organized sports or gym classes--everyday activities like climbing the stairs or walking can reduce the likelihood of developing heart disease, type two diabetes, and obesity.
