Initiative in place for "stroke belt" states
Rehab Regs, August 19, 2004
Seven states will receive approximately $2 million in grant awards this year to support a new initiative aimed at reducing excessively high rates of stroke, stroke disabilities, and stroke deaths that disproportionately occur in the southeastern region of the U.S., according to the PT Bulletin Online. The U.S. Health and Human Services' Stroke Belt Elimination Initiative will award approximately $8 million over four years within seven states--Alabama, Arkansas, Georgia, Mississippi, North Carolina, South Carolina, and Tennessee--experiencing the highest number of stroke deaths.
