Clinic owner sentenced for fraud
Rehab Regs, August 19, 2004
The owner of two physical rehabilitation clinics was sentenced to more than three years in prison and ordered to repay $1.2 million for overbilling Medicare, according to Health Insurance Law Weekly. Anna Malveaux, 41, of Lake Charles, LA, owned and ran Veaux's Healthcare Services in Lake Charles and Distinguished Healthcare Services Inc., in Grand Coteau. From January 2000 through June 2001, Malveaux allegedly received more money than she was entitled to by claiming that a doctor supervised treatments at her clinic. The doctor in question had never worked with Malveaux and did not know she was using his Medicare provider number. Malveaux pleaded guilty in January 2003 to healthcare fraud, reported Health Insurance Law Weekly.
