Medicare anti-obesity interventions revised
Rehab Regs, July 22, 2004
The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) has announced a new Medicare coverage policy to remove barriers to covering anti-obesity intervention if scientific and medical evidence show their effectiveness in improving health outcomes, according to the PT Bulletin Online. The revision is not expected to have an immediate effect on Medicare coverage, because CMS is currently reviewing scientific evidence using the coverage determination procedures established in 1999 and modified by the Medicare Modernization Act of 2003. Go to the Medicare coverage Web site at http://www.cms.hhs.gov/coverage/ for more information.
