European deficiencies in healthcare exposed

Rehab Regs, July 15, 2004

A new European survey released earlier this month has exposed healthcare deficiencies for patients with arthritis and rheumatism. They are Europe's most widespread chronic diseases, according to Health & Medicine Weekly, and the conditions can have serious consequences, including severe pain and loss of mobility. The survey shows that a third of people with the illness had to wait over a year before receiving the correct diagnosis. Additionally, while more than half of survey respondents say the condition had a major impact on their ability to work, only 34% said they have convenient access to occupational therapy and 44% to rehabilitation.
