Another HIPAA deadline looms
Rehab Regs, June 24, 2004
Beginning July 6, CMS will implement changes to a contingency plan issued in February that will delay the processing of noncompliant electronic claims by 13 days, according to PT Bulletin Online. The agency released guidelines for providers who use clearinghouses for their billing after learning that some clearinghouses are converting HIPAA-compliant claims back into nonstandard electronic formats until all of their clients are required to comply with HIPAA standards. The guidance reminds providers that regardless of who submits the bill, they are ultimately responsible for submitting compliant claims.
