Lawmakers try to expand Medicaid eligibility
Rehab Regs, June 24, 2004
The Family Opportunity Act--an amendment to Title XIX of the Social Security Act recently passed in the Senate--would enable families of students with disabilities to get additional Medicaid coverage, according to The Special Educator. The amendment would allow states to charge families for Medicaid premiums, but the charges would be based on income and wouldn't exceed 7.5% of the family income. The bill would also add 6.58 billion to Medicaid spending over the next decade for services provided, including physical and occupational therapy.
