Clerical workers experience long-term discomfort

Rehab Regs, June 17, 2004

It comes as no surprise that therapists are seeing a high proportion of neck and shoulder injuries in clerical and administrative workers who are sedentary for much of their working day. Additional bad news is that these conditions worsen over time, according to The Nationwide Advertiser. Injuries among older people are exacerbated by natural changes in the cervical, thoracic and lumbar vertebrae, as well as on shoulder joints and tendons, say experts. According to the National Code of Practice for the Prevention of Occupational Overuse Syndrome, workers need correct ergonomic set ups, variety in working duties, appropriate rest breaks, and self-help strategies.
