Diabetics find relief in light therapy

Rehab Regs, June 3, 2004

Many physical therapists are using near-infrared light technology to treat diabetic patients, according to the Monterey [CA] Herald. Patients unable to get relief from disease complications through prescription drugs are finding that the use of monochromatic infrared energy can improve both numbness and pain. The new treatment involves wrapping a flexible rectangular pad that houses a light unit around the problem area for 30 minutes. The pad passes the light through the skin and into the body's deeper tissues, triggering a gradual energy release that stimulates healing.
