Third World benefits from affordable prosthesis

Rehab Regs, June 3, 2004

An indigenously-developed temporary prosthesis designed to help residents of Third World countries has been developed in India, according to Health & Medicine Week. The leg prosthesis was created to accelerate wound healing, preservation of postural reflexes, and achieve better psychological well-being, according to representatives from the Occupational Therapy Department's Joint Amputation Clinic at Christian Medical College in Tamil Nadu. Previously, a cost-effective solution for early management among Third World nations was unavailable.
