Gardening good therapy for arthritis

Rehab Regs, May 27, 2004

If you've got a green thumb, but also suffer from arthritis pain, there's no need to hang up your gardening tools, according to the Edmonton Journal [Canada]. Gardening is a great exercise for those suffering from arthritis because it helps to maintain flexibility, strength, a range of movement and stamina. Experts suggest that all gardeners rotate easy tasks with more difficult ones to give the body a break and also remember to work in a comfortable posture with hands between hips and shoulders and close to the body. Also, use knee pads and limit kneeling to no longer than five minutes at a time, the Journal reported.
