Senate passes IDEA bill, future still uncertain
Rehab Regs, May 27, 2004
Earlier this month, the Senate passed its version of legislation to reauthorize federal programs under the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA), according to the PT Bulletin Online. But implementation remains up in the air as the Senate and the House continue to try and resolve differences between the Senate bill and the version passed by the House over a year ago. The Senate measure includes provisions to increase federal funding for IDEA programs, ensure that physical therapy and other related services are provided by qualified personnel, and guarantee full representation of physical therapy in all IDEA programs from early intervention to research and personnel development.
