Ankle trouble puts exercisers on the sidelines

Rehab Regs, May 12, 2004

Those who love summer sports should beware of one of the most common injuries in America--the sprained ankle. From running and walking to playing tennis and rollerblading, adding just five minutes of specific stretches, can help you avoid a sprain, according to Athletic Physical Therapy and The Foot and Ankle Institute of Santa Monica [CA]. Medical research exists about ankle sprains and instability, according to Managed Care Law Weekly, but until the introduction of Functional Ankle Stability Training, no protocol existed to help people avoid ankle sprains. The entire program takes fifteen minutes, but the specific ankle protocol is only about a five-minute addition to an already well-balanced stretching program.
