Arnold pumps up PT coverage for workers’ comp
Rehab Regs, April 29, 2004
The American Physical Therapy Association (APTA) is giving itself a pat on the back for successful lobbying efforts that resulted in workers' compensation improvements in California, according to the PT Bulletin Online. Last week, Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger signed into law a bill that preserves the coverage of physical therapy services. A cap on physical therapy visits and a 5% fee schedule cut were proposed in earlier legislation and dropped from the final bill. The new law, which went into effect immediately, will reduce the state's workers' compensation spending from $4 to $6 billion--roughly half of what Schwarzenegger called for in his original proposal.
