Chronic neck pain alleviated with exercise

Rehab Regs, April 8, 2004

A yearlong Finnish study found exercises using a technique that avoids head movement effectively relieves chronic neck pain and restores neck mobility. According to Consumer Reports On Health, 180 female office workers with chronic neck pain followed one of three at-home regimens for 12 months. Results showed that endurance and isometric exercisers had far less pain than a control group that did only whole-body aerobic and stretching exercises. Physical therapists involved in the study believe the exercises could also have the same positive effect on men.
