Massage therapists knead their way to respect

Rehab Regs, March 18, 2004

Legitimate, professional massage therapists are hoping a bill passed by the Georgia state Senate last week will relieve them of burdensome regulations designed to weed out pretenders who use massage therapy as a cover for other types of business, according to the Atlanta [GA] Journal-Constitution. The bill would create a five-member board that would issue licenses to massage therapists and pass standards much like those already in place for physical therapists. The act would bar anyone who doesn't have a massage therapy license from using terms such as "massage" or "bodywork" in advertisements, signs, and anything else connected with the business. Each violation would be punishable by fines of $1,000.
