Music therapy goes mainstream

Rehab Regs, February 27, 2004

Music therapy is being incorporated into lessons for severely disabled students with positive results, according to the Kansas State Collegian. While some see music therapy as a trend, many educators believe the practice is beneficial in settings ranging from hospice care to early childhood development. For example, an elderly stroke patient might experience an increased improvement in walking ability if they do so to the tempo of music. Music therapy has its roots in World War II, when it soothed veterans with mental and physical trauma.
