AK speech therapy patients may have to do without
Rehab Regs, February 27, 2004
Proposed cuts in Alaska's Department of Health and Social Services budget could mean that low-income adults will lose access to speech therapy, according to the Associated Press. A House Finance subcommittee earlier this month recommended cutting $89 million from Medicaid, including reductions in eyeglasses, hearing aides, and emergency dental care. If approved, the proposal would take effect July 1. The federal government requires that a minimum of services be available, mostly focused on children and seniors. Included are physical and occupational therapy.
