New hand SIS proposed

Rehab Regs, February 6, 2004

A new hand therapy special interest section (SIS) has been proposed for members of the American Occupational Therapy Association (AOTA). At a November 2003 SIS standing committee meeting, members of the physical disabilities SIS decided to change the status of the hand rehabilitation subsection to a freestanding section. Objectives include continuing education in the hand therapy arena, support in hand and upper-extremity rehabilitation for non-specialized members, and an increase in awareness of hand and upper extremity treatment as an occupational therapy intervention. Signatures from 1,200 AOTA members are required to form this new section and will be collected at the annual conference in May, or through email and regular mail.
