Entrepreneur adds new tool to rehab regimen
Rehab Regs, January 23, 2004
The flexibility ball trend is experiencing a rebirth in the form of the BOSU Balance Trainer. BOSU--which stands for "both sides up"--can best be described as a half-ball mounted on a 24-inch-diameter platform, according to the Patriot Ledger [Quincy, MA]. Dave Weck designed the training instrument after rehabbing a back injury on an inflatable ball in 1999. According to the Patriot Ledger, stepping on the air-filled dome--which feels like dense gel--offers the benefits of training on an unstable surface with safety and simplicity. The BOSU is designed to enhance balance, lean muscle development, strength and a solid body core.
