Golf regimen has seniors yelling "fore!"
Rehab Regs, December 22, 2003
A recent University of San Francisco study reveals that consistent, integrated performance training, similar to that used regularly by professional golfers, can help older golfers increase their club speed and maintain balance while swinging the golf club. Some of the exercises are similar to those incorporated in physical therapy regimens, and the benefits are said to reach beyond the golf course. The 8-week study included participants ages 55 to 89 and resulted in greater mid-body strength and better overall physical conditioning. Thirteen of the 20 participants received the full exercise routine, while 7 others were in a control group. Those participants receiving the full routine also attended three hour-long sessions per week that focused on lower torso, low back, hips, and stomach strengthening and reported a greater ease at performing daily activities as well.
