Interim administrator steps in for Scully

December 15th marked the end of former Administrator Tom Scully's tenure at the CMS helm, and the agency has appointed an interim director while it seeks a replacement. Dennis G. Smith is leaving his post as director of CMS' Center for Medicaid and State Operations to become acting administrator of the agency, CMS' press release announced last week. Leslie V. Norwalk will continue at her post of deputy administrator and chief operating officer at CMS, Department of Health and Human Services Secretary Tommy Thompson said in the press release. Since his departure, Scully has joined the Washington law office of Alston & Bird and is expected to advise clients on Medicare law.
