Scully resignation effective December 15
Rehab Regs, December 11, 2003
CMS Administrator Tom Scully will step down on December 15 from the post he has held for the past three years, as head of Medicare and Medicaid, the nation's second and third largest domestic programs. Scully, 46, a corporate lawyer, was an appointee in both Bush presidential administrations and was hired as Medicare and Medicaid chief in May 2001. Scully's reasons for leaving include wanting to spend time with his family, and a desire to pursue a more lucrative position in the private sector. Highlights of his tenure include serving as a member of the President's Medicare reform team, expanding beneficiary information, and establishing open door forums that encourage higher regulatory compliance.
