The U.S. Department of Health and Human ¬Services’ (HHS) interim final rule on breach notifications challenges covered entities (CE) with notification reporting timelines and the necessity of compiling and submitting annual summaries of breaches to HHS.
Adjusting to some of the new requirements will be difficult, but other aspects of the rule, published in the August Federal Register, could have been worse, according to experts.
However, providers now know the rules and can start developing the tools they’ll need to comply with the new breach reporting requirements.
