The wait is finally over for SLPs. July 1 officially marks the day that SLPs in private practice can bill Medicare for services. With the new change in provider status, SLPs now have the entrepreneurship opportunities that PTs and OTs in private practice have had for years.
The start of the enrollment period as a supplier of Medicare services and to begin billing Medicare for outpatient SLP services in a private practice setting was June 2.
CMS will accept and pay for the appropriate claims for services provided on or after July 1 if the SLP has already submitted the enrollment application. It’s advised that submission be verified by certified mail.
Previously, the Medicare program could only pay for SLP services if an agency, institution, physician, or nonphysician practitioner billed them.
