Stimulus package put money into researching treatment outcomes
Rehab Regs, February 20, 2009
The $787 billion economic stimulus package, signed into law on Tuesday by President Barack Obama, will provide researchers with $1.1 billion to compare the effectiveness of different medical treatments, according to The New York Times.
This research will compare the outcomes of different treatment options, such as surgery versus physical therapy for the treatment of back pain, and determine which is more effective. In exploring the effectiveness of medications, surgeries, and other methods used to treat the same conditions, this research aims to reduce the amount of money spent on expensive, ineffective treatments, according to The New York Times.
