Use extra time to prepare for audits and appeals

Many healthcare providers have been dreading the pending arrival of CMS’ Medicare Recovery Audit Contractor (RAC) program, which pays auditors to find and recover Medicare payments. Initially, CMS planned to permanently install the program nationally by January 1, 2010, with the program expanding into some states this year and in 2009.
