PTs exempt from DMEPOS accreditation requirements
Rehab Regs, September 19, 2008
PTs are exempt from Medicare’s accreditation and quality standards for durable medical equipment, prosthetics, orthotics, and supplies (DMEPOS), the American Physical Therapy Association (APTA) reported recently.
CMS had initially proposed that PTs and other healthcare providers be accredited and meet quality standards in order to bill for DMEPOS. The APTA worked other healthcare associations, including the American Medical Association, to lobby CMS to remove the accreditation requirement, according to the APTA.
