Private companies offer solutions to stop Medicare fraud

Rehab Regs, August 1, 2008

A publishing company executive recently told the Senate Republican Conference Committee the government is lagging behind the private sector in its capacity to use information technology to detect Medicare fraud, according to Government HealthIT magazine’s Web site.

Haywood Talcove, chief executive officer of the special services division at LexisNexis, said the commercial sector has already adopted aggressive practices to stop fraud in financial services, insurance, and collection industries, according to the Web site. A LexisNexis pilot program cross-checked Medicare claims in Illinois and Washington against records in the company’s public record database, and found 10.8 million incidents of apparent fraud over a four-year period.
