Tip of the Week

Rehab Regs, July 25, 2008

CMS does not reimburse separately for using VitalStim to treat dysphagia because its efficacy has not been proven. However, if an SLP or OT documents other reasonable and necessary dysphagia treatment was provided with or without VitalStim, you can bill for CPT code 92526, treatment of swallowing dysfunction/oral function for feeding (untimed).

This tip is from HCPro’s book The How-To Manual for Rehab Documentation: A Complete Guide to Increasing Reimbursement and Reducing Denials.
