Congress overrides veto to pass Medicare bill; therapy caps exceptions continue
Rehab Regs, July 18, 2008
The U.S. House and Senate voted Tuesday to override President George W. Bush’s veto of the Medicare Improvements for Patients and Providers Act of 2008, extending the therapy caps exceptions process for 18 months.
In addition to extending the therapy caps exceptions process, the Medicare bill also replaces a scheduled 10.6 % cut to the Medicare physician fee schedule with a 0.5% increase for 2008 and a 1.1% increase in 2009, according to information released by CMS. Changes to the exceptions process and reimbursements under the fee schedule are retroactive to July 1, according to CMS.
