APTA lobbies against physician fee schedule cuts

Rehab Regs, May 16, 2008

American Physical Therapy Association (APTA) members testified May 8 before the U.S. House Committee on Small Business that a scheduled 10.6 % cut in the Medicare physician fee schedule could devastate PTs in private practice, according to a recent APTA press release.

Tom DiAngelis, PT, vice president of the APTA’s private practice section, said PTs would be hit particularly hard by the 10.6 % cut in payment because they are also subject to an annual cap of $1,810 per beneficiary on outpatient services, according to the press release.

The fee schedule cuts will go into effect July 1 unless Congress intervenes, according to the APTA. For more information about APTA advocacy efforts, visit the association’s Patient Action Center.
